Headway Southampton
Last Thursday the PeartreeRehab team & our Fundraising Manager undertook an awareness raising challenge covering 12 Miles for Christmas on various modes of transport across the city (including the IoW) in various Christmas outfits. www.justgiving.com/page/12milesforchristmas Starting at Peartree House in Woolston we got dropped by car into Woolston to catch a bus over the bridge into town. The bus driver was so helpful especially when the bus went a slightly different route to what we were expecting 🙂 On foot we walked to the Red Jet engaging with those we passed. At Red Funnel, Gareth, Hayden & the team were brilliant as we travelled Red Jet to the Isle of Wight & back, where Headway provide a support group. Back on land we had a quick stop on the VOI scooters before walking up the QE2 Mile towards the Bargate and the Christmas market. After a brief stop and walk around the Christmas market we borrowed a few motorbikes for a try (with permission)😊 Up to Guildhall Square, where many thanks go to the team managing the Sky Wheel who gave us a few circuits on the Big Wheel. Then to South Western Railway Central station where we met Kevin Stone & travelled onto Totton train station. On arrival we were greeted by Totton Councillors Councillor Neville Penman & Dave Penny before going into the Headway Southampton centre to meet some of the day service users.36 miles in total were travelled; including 12 miles around Southampton & a 24 mile round trip to the Island in 5 hours plus a combined 40,000+ steps. We collected over £75.00 in our buckets, thank you to everyone who contributed, as well as funds still being raised on line on the Just Giving link - still live if anyone wishes to donate. Many thanks to Southampton City Council for approving our licence to collect application. In all thank you to everyone involved on the day including the free travel enabling us to get around, it was great to raise awareness of those with acquired brain injuries (ABI) whilst collecting some funds towards the rehabilitation work done at Headway.#12milesofchristmas #TravelSouthampton #fundraiser #awarenessraisingLorelei Menzies ... I have always felt comfortable no matter what I've spoken about. Especially when I have been upset. Feeling comfortable and able to talk openly about myself and my feeling. It's a fun but relaxed atmosphere and I love it here.
